One of my favourite dietary sourcebooks, Healing with Whole Foods by Paul Pitchford, describes Autumn as the “season of harvest, a time to pull inward and gather together on all levels, a time to store up fuel, food and warm clothing, a time to study and plan for the approaching stillness of winter. Everything in nature contracts and moves its essence inward and downward. Leaves and fruit fall, seeds dry, the sap of trees goes into roots. The earth’s grasses start to lose their deep green color, turning lighter and drier.” This certainly depicts a warm and cozy feeling about our present season. One in which I am trying to embrace as I sit in bed rubbing the back of yet another flu-stricken family member. Let’s face it, with fall comes the dreaded cold and flu season and it appears to be here with a vengeance this season.
So for those of you who may be hunkering down either recovering, or trying to stay safe from this buggy season, I wanted to share with you a beautiful video presented at TEDs INK conference. I thought this visualization of embryonic development was certainly worth spreading.
