According to Trational Chinese Medicine, the change of seasons are an important time to play close attention to your health and well being, as any imbalances or signs of stress in your body*mind*spirit can be easily aggrevated.

September is considered "late summer" and is associated with the element of "Earth".  To understand how you can align with this time of transition, take preventative action in bolstering your health and ward off changes in your mood, here is an outline of the Earth element and how it affects us.

It's World Breastfeeding Week Aug.1-7 and seeing all the posts and articles on my facebook newsfeed has me reflecting on my experience with breastfeeding.  She and I struggled together with getting her to open her mouth and latch properly.  But despite the painful nipples, blocked ducts, mastitis, crazy pumping schedule and some tears...we perservered.  We eventually made it to exclusively breastfeeding and she is now 13 months old and is still a "nummie" girl.

This is such a good little find of a recipe.  I've forwarded it to so many patients over the past two months that I've finally decided it needs an official place in the food and recipe section of our blog.

I've recently been trying to cut down on grains (eliminating gluten entirely) and that has made the traditional western breakfasts feel challenging.  There are only so many ways to eat eggs before you kinda get egged out!

At the Elements of Health Centre, one of our specialties is helping women to conceive with the support of Acupuncture and Traditional Chine Medicine (TCM). "If you take care of the minutes, the years will take care of themselves."

I just read this Tibetan saying in a newsletter I subscribe to called Just One Thing: Resources for Happiness, Love and Wisdom.  A beautiful and timely reminder for this time of year when the temptation is to load ourselves up with all sorts of promises of change and resolutions.

Here's a small excerpt.....

I am a die hard ginger snap fan and this is my new favourite cookie recipe!  My mom clipped it out of Alive magazine for me, knowing full well that it would be right up my alley.  I love that it's a healthier version but still tatses amazing.

Ways of improving our fitness is an ever expanding realm. One aspect I've become quite interested in lately is fitness during pregnancy. Many women, whether due to life pressures or lack of knowledge, decrease their fitness levels during pregnancy. While some women do need to slow down, there are still ways to maintain a low level of fitness with labour specifically in mind. I came across this blog site with a wonderful article describing three exercises women should keep in mid during their pregnancy to optimize an easier and successful labour.
